I’m Mei, an independent female massage therapist in Dubai, and if you simply want to switch off, a relaxing massage at home is the easiest way I know. For pure relaxation I’d point you towards Swedish or aromatherapy — slow, flowing, gentle work that calms the nervous system rather than digging into knots. A home visit is AED 400 an hour, no deposit.
Which massage is most relaxing? Swedish and aromatherapy
When people ask me for “the relaxing one”, they almost always mean Swedish or aromatherapy. Both use long, slow, flowing strokes and light-to-medium pressure — the kind that lulls you into that heavy, half-asleep state rather than making you grit your teeth.
Swedish and relaxation is the classic full-body unwind: rhythmic, soothing, and brilliant for a busy mind. It’s my go-to for first-timers and for anyone whose main goal is to de-stress. Aromatherapy adds calming essential oils to the same gentle style — the scent works on your mood while the strokes work on your muscles, which makes it lovely after a long-haul flight or a fortnight of poor sleep.
If your shoulders are full of hard knots and you want them worked out, that’s deep tissue, and it’s a different, more intense experience. But for genuine relaxation, softer is better, and I’ll always keep the pressure at a level that feels good rather than something to endure. You can read more about each on my Swedish and relaxation and aromatherapy pages.
You don’t have to choose rigidly, either. Many sessions are mostly Swedish with a calming aromatherapy oil to deepen the wind-down, and that combination suits a lot of people beautifully. If you’re after relaxation but also carry a little everyday tension, I can keep the overall pace gentle and simply spend a few extra minutes easing the tightest spots, without ever tipping into deep-tissue territory. Tell me your goal on the day and I’ll shape the hour around it.
Why home makes it easier to truly switch off
Here’s the honest truth about relaxing at a spa: you finally drift off, and then you have to get dressed, settle up, and drive home through Dubai traffic — undoing half the calm on the way. At home, the session ends and you’re already home. You can crawl straight into your own bed.
That’s the quiet advantage of a home visit. No commute, no waiting room, no small talk with strangers, no rushing to make your slot. You control the lighting, the temperature and the music. Your phone can go face-down in another room. For a lot of people, being in their own space is exactly what lets them properly let go — the body doesn’t fully relax until it feels safe, and nowhere feels safer than home.
I bring everything: table, towels, oils and proper draping. You just dim the lights and decide whether you’d like quiet or silence.
What a relaxing session with me looks like
We’ll start with a quick chat — how you’re feeling, where you hold your stress, anything to avoid. Then I’ll ask you to get comfortable under the towel, and we begin, usually face-down, with slow warming strokes across the back and shoulders.
From there it’s unhurried. I keep the pressure at a level that feels good, never painful, and I work down the back, along the arms and legs, and up to the neck and scalp if you’d like. Everything is strictly professional and properly draped throughout, and I look after both women and men. Most people stop talking within a few minutes and simply breathe. That’s the goal — an hour where nothing is required of you.
Afterwards, take it slowly. Have a glass of water, resist the urge to leap straight back onto your laptop, and let the calm linger. An evening slot works beautifully for this, because you can go from the table more or less straight to bed.
What’s actually happening while you lie there is worth knowing. As you relax deeply, your breathing slows, your heart rate settles, and the muscles you’ve been unconsciously clenching finally let go. Slow, rhythmic massage encourages that shift — the opposite of the tense, braced state a stressful day leaves behind. You may notice your shoulders drop and your jaw unclench without meaning to. None of it is magic or medicine, just your nervous system being given permission to stand down for an hour, which is why a genuinely relaxing session can leave you feeling lighter for days rather than only for the evening.
If that sounds like exactly what you need, message me on WhatsApp and we’ll find a time to get you properly unwound.
Better sleep and lower stress
A relaxing massage can help ease the physical side of stress — the tight shoulders, the clenched jaw, the shallow breathing — and it can support a better night’s sleep. Slow, rhythmic touch nudges your body out of “go” mode and into “rest” mode, and it’s common to sleep more deeply afterwards.
It’s not a cure for anxiety or insomnia, and I’d never pretend otherwise — if you’re struggling with either in an ongoing way, do speak to your doctor. But as a regular reset, it’s one of the kindest things you can do for a frazzled nervous system. Some people book one when they hit a wall; others keep a gentle session every couple of weeks as regular maintenance for a demanding schedule. If you’re wondering how often is worth it, I’ve written a straight-talking guide on how often you should get a massage.
Who it suits, and how to get the most from it
All sorts of people book a relaxing massage, but a few reasons come up again and again: a brutal work week that won’t let go of the shoulders, sleep that’s gone patchy, the flat and wired feeling after too much screen time, and jet lag after a long flight into Dubai. If deep, intense work puts you off, this is the gentle place to start — nothing about a relaxing session should ever hurt. It’s also a genuinely thoughtful thing to book for someone else who’s running on empty.
A few small things make it even better. Turn your phone to silent and leave it in another room; dim the lights and pick quiet music, or none at all. Have water ready for afterwards, and try not to schedule anything demanding straight after — the calm lasts longer if you let it. If you tend to feel cold, say so and I’ll keep you well covered and warm throughout, and if a scent isn’t for you, I’ll happily switch the oil.
Prices and booking
A relaxing home visit is AED 400 an hour, or AED 300 an hour at my studio if you’d prefer to travel to me. Choose 60, 90 or 120 minutes at the same hourly rate — for deep relaxation, 90 minutes is the sweet spot, giving us time to go slowly without watching the clock. No deposit, cash on the day, bank transfer on request; the full breakdown is on my pricing page.
I work daily from 10am to 11pm by appointment, and an evening slot to end the day is a favourite. To book, send me a message on WhatsApp with your area and a rough time, and I’ll bring the calm to you.
