By Mei Han, massage therapist in Dubai Updated 11 August 2026
Thai massage in Dubai is not a service I provide. I am Mei, a female massage therapist offering strictly professional sessions for both women and men, and I believe it is better to explain honestly what Thai massage involves before suggesting an alternative that may suit you more closely. If you want deep relaxation, focused pressure or help easing muscular tightness, I can guide you towards the right option.
I don’t offer Thai massage — here’s what it is and what I do instead
I do not offer Thai massage, and Thai massage in Dubai should not be confused with an oil-based relaxation treatment. Traditional Thai work usually takes place on a floor mat, with clothing kept on, and combines pressure, movement and passive stretching. For clients wanting deep pressure or a calmer, oil-based session, my deep tissue, Swedish & relaxation, or sports & recovery treatments may be closer to what they actually need.
People often search for “Thai massage Dubai” when they are looking for one of several different things:
- Strong pressure for tight shoulders, hips or back
- Stretching and movement after sitting or training
- A relaxing massage without the need to undress
- A treatment that feels more active than a classic oil massage
- Help understanding why their body feels stiff or restricted
Those are different goals, and the best treatment depends on the result you want from the appointment. I would rather be clear about the difference than accept a booking for something I do not provide.
My available services are deep tissue, Swedish & relaxation, sports & recovery, prenatal & postnatal, lymphatic drainage, and aromatherapy. You can see the full range on my massage services page, or message me directly if you are unsure which one fits your needs.
What Thai massage actually involves
Thai massage is generally performed with the client wearing comfortable, loose clothing on a padded floor mat, rather than lying down for an oil massage. It uses rhythmic pressure, compression, assisted movement and passive stretching, so the client’s body is moved through positions while the practitioner applies pressure with hands, thumbs, elbows, knees or feet.
The experience can feel more active than Swedish or oil-based massage. You may be guided into gentle stretches, have joints moved through a wider range, or feel pressure applied along different areas of the body. The client is usually covered by clothing rather than oil, and the session can involve changing positions from lying on the back to lying on the side or front.
For a broad introduction to massage terminology and traditions, the Wikipedia overview of massage is useful. The Thai massage reference also explains why this style is often described as a combination of acupressure, assisted yoga-like movement and stretching.
Thai massage is not simply “strong massage”. Pressure level, rhythm, movement and comfort all matter. A forceful session is not automatically more effective, and stretching should never be pushed through sharp pain, panic or resistance. If you have a recent injury, significant joint restriction or a medical condition, seek appropriate medical advice before booking any massage.
Who Thai massage suits
Thai massage may suit someone who specifically wants passive stretching, compression and a treatment that involves movement rather than oil. It can appeal to people who feel stiff after travel, desk work or exercise and prefer to remain fully clothed during the appointment.
It is often chosen by clients who enjoy:
- Being moved gently through stretches
- Pressure around the legs, hips, back and shoulders
- A structured, active session
- Working on a sense of restricted movement
- Staying in loose, comfortable clothing
It may not suit everyone. If you dislike being moved, have difficulty getting up and down from a floor mat, or prefer a quiet treatment where you can settle under a towel, another style may be more comfortable. A lying-down oil massage can also be more practical for clients who are pregnant, recovering from illness, or managing limited mobility.
Thai massage should not be chosen simply because the words “deep” or “traditional” sound stronger. The important question is what you want to feel afterwards: more relaxed, less tense, more mobile, or better prepared to move. Tell me that goal and I can suggest the closest available service without pretending that it is Thai massage.
If you wanted deep pressure or deep relaxation, try these instead
If what you really wanted was strong, focused work, my deep tissue massage may be the closest alternative. If you wanted to switch off and feel calmer, Swedish & relaxation is usually the better match. If your tightness is connected to training, repetitive movement or recovery, sports & recovery may make more sense.
Here is how I normally explain the options:
| What you want | The closest available option |
|---|---|
| Focused work on muscular tightness | Deep tissue massage |
| Calm, flowing pressure and relaxation | Swedish & relaxation massage |
| Support around training and physical recovery | Sports & recovery massage |
Deep tissue massage uses slower, more targeted pressure around areas that feel dense or restricted. It should remain within a manageable level, with communication throughout the session. You may feel worked, but you should not feel that you have to tolerate sharp pain or pressure that makes you tense against the treatment.
Swedish & relaxation is a better choice when your main aim is to rest, breathe more easily and reduce everyday muscular tension. It can include lighter or moderate pressure, depending on your preference, and is often suitable when you want a peaceful session rather than a physically demanding one.
Sports & recovery is designed around the demands placed on your body by training, sport or repeated activity. It can include focused work on commonly overused areas and practical guidance about pacing the session. It is not a substitute for assessment of an injury.
Massage can help ease or manage muscular tension, but it does not diagnose the cause of pain. If discomfort is persistent, severe, or accompanied by numbness or radiating pain, see your doctor or a physiotherapist first. Massage is supportive, not a replacement for medical care. For general guidance, the NHS advice on back pain and NHS information on sciatica explain when professional assessment is important.
If you are still deciding, message me on WhatsApp and tell me whether you want relaxation, focused pressure, stretching-like movement or support after exercise. I will point you towards an available treatment honestly.
How my sessions work
I offer home visits in Dubai at AED 400 per hour, or studio appointments at AED 300 per hour. The same hourly rate applies to 60, 90 and 120-minute sessions. There is no deposit; payment is mainly in cash, with bank transfer available on request.
My sessions are by appointment and strictly professional. I use proper draping, discuss pressure and focus areas before starting, and expect clear, respectful communication from both sides. I see both women and men, and I do not offer Thai massage.
You can book one of these six services:
- Deep tissue
- Swedish & relaxation
- Sports & recovery
- Prenatal & postnatal
- Lymphatic drainage
- Aromatherapy
Prenatal & postnatal sessions need a conversation about timing, comfort and any advice you have received from your healthcare provider. Lymphatic drainage should also be approached honestly: it is not a detox treatment and it does not cause weight loss. It may support comfort and gentle fluid movement in appropriate circumstances, but it is not a substitute for medical assessment.
Aromatherapy can be added within that service using oils chosen around your preferences and comfort. If you have allergies, sensitive skin or a strong reaction to fragrance, tell me before the appointment so we can keep the session suitable for you.
For home visits, please provide a quiet, clean space where I can work safely and comfortably. I work on your own bed, made up with my massage blanket and fresh linens, so there is nothing to arrange beyond a private room. Studio bookings are arranged by appointment, with the same professional boundaries and clear communication.
You can check the massage pricing page for the basic rate structure. If you are searching specifically for Thai massage in Dubai, I want to save you time: it is not on my menu. If your real goal is deep pressure, relaxation or help with muscular tightness, message me on WhatsApp and I will help you choose from the services I actually provide.
