Before you book

What to expect: how a massage with me actually works

There are two ways to see me — I come to you, or you come to my studio. Here is exactly what happens either way, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

By Mei Han, massage therapist in Dubai

At your home or hotel, I don't bring a folding massage table. I bring a dedicated massage blanket and lay it over your own bed, with fresh linens, a headrest and my oils, and the massage happens there — on the bed you already find comfortable. At my studio, you lie on a large bed made for clients, not a narrow treatment table, covered the same way. Everything else — draping, pressure, price, payment — is identical in both.

Two ways to see me

Most people book a home visit; some prefer to come to me. The treatment is the same person doing the same work — what changes is the bed you lie on and the price.

At your home or hotel, step by step

From your first message to the moment I close the door behind me, this is the whole visit. Nothing here is a surprise on the day, which is rather the point.

  1. 1

    You message me

On WhatsApp, or through the appointment page. Tell me your area, a time and roughly what you'd like. I reply with a fixed price — AED 400 an hour at home — and there's no deposit.

  2. 2

    I confirm the details

Building or hotel, room number, anything I should know about your body. If your tower has reception or security, you leave my name and I'm shown up.

  3. 3

    I arrive with one bag

In it: a dedicated massage blanket, fresh linens, towels, a headrest and a bolster, and my oils. There is no folding table — I don't bring one, and you'll see why in a moment.

  4. 4

    I make up your bed

The massage blanket goes over your own bed, a fresh sheet goes over that, the headrest goes where your face will be. It takes about five minutes and nothing in the room needs moving.

  5. 5

    A two-minute chat

Where it hurts, how firm you like it, anything to avoid. Then I step out or turn away while you undress to your comfort level and get under the towel.

  6. 6

    The treatment

Proper draping the whole time — only the area I'm working on is uncovered. I check the pressure as I go; "more", "less" and "stay there" are the three most useful words you can say to me.

  7. 7

You stay exactly where you are

When we finish, you're already in your own bed. You pay in cash (bank transfer if you'd rather), I pack the blanket and linens back into the bag, and I leave your bed as I found it.

The clock starts when my hands do — making up the bed and packing away are my time, not yours. If you'd like the fuller version of the small things that make the hour nicer, read how to prepare for a home massage.

What's in the bag — and what isn't

Everything a treatment needs fits in one bag, and all of it goes home with me afterwards:

  • A dedicated massage blanket — the firm, even layer that goes over your mattress and turns a bed into a treatment surface.
  • Fresh linens and towels — laundered for you alone — a clean sheet over the blanket, towels for draping.
  • A headrest and a bolster — so you can lie face-down comfortably, and so your knees, ankles or bump are supported.
  • Massage oils — a small selection, including unscented; tell me about allergies or preferences when you book.

What's not in the bag: a folding massage table.

A portable table is narrow, cool to lie on and needs two metres of clear floor. Your bed is wider, warmer and already the most comfortable surface in the room — and when the massage ends, you're lying exactly where you'll rest. So I stopped carrying one. The blanket does the job a table used to do, without the furniture-shuffling.

A selection of massage oils, body oil and muscle balm I bring to every session

A few of the oils and balms that travel with me. Unscented is always an option.

At my studio

My studio bed: a wide wooden bed made up with a cream sheet, a quilted massage blanket, rolled towels, a bolster and oil on a tray

The studio is a quiet, private room, by appointment only — and the bed is the point. It's a large bed made for clients, not the narrow treatment table you'd find in a spa. I make it up the same way I make up yours at home: massage blanket, fresh linens, a bolster and towels, with the oils on a tray beside it. You can turn, side-lie or stretch an arm out without feeling you're about to fall off something.

You arrive at the time we've agreed, we have the same two-minute chat, and I leave the room while you get comfortable under the towel. Afterwards there's no rush out of the door — take a few minutes, have some water, then dress and pay in cash. Because you've travelled to me, the rate is lower: AED 300 an hour instead of AED 400.

What the studio isn't: a spa with a lobby, a pool or a steam room. If that's what you're after I'll say so honestly. If you want one good pair of hands in a calm room, it's exactly that. I share the address when you book.

What stays the same either way

Proper draping, always

You're covered with a towel or sheet throughout; only the area I'm working on is uncovered, then re-covered before I move on.

Pressure is a conversation

I ask before we start and check as we go. Ask for more, less or somewhere else at any point — I would much rather hear it than have you be polite.

Strictly professional

One female therapist, by appointment, with clear boundaries. I treat both women and men and the standard is the same for everyone.

No deposit, fixed price

AED 400 at home or in a hotel, AED 300 at the studio, for 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Cash after the session; bank transfer on request.

Your body, not a routine

Six treatments, chosen for what you tell me and what I feel under my hands — not a set sequence performed on everyone.

Daily 10:00–23:00

Late evenings are the most popular time for home visits, because there is nowhere to be afterwards but your own bed.

What you need to do (almost nothing)

At home

  • Decide which bed — your own is usually best.
  • A quiet room and, ideally, a door that closes.
  • Water nearby and something loose to wear afterwards.
  • Tell me about parking, security or a gate code.

In a hotel

  • Hotel name and room number when you book.
  • Let reception know you're expecting a visitor.
  • Nothing else — the hotel bed works exactly like yours.
  • More in the hotel massage guide.

At the studio

  • Arrive at the agreed time; the room is ready.
  • Wear whatever's comfortable to travel in.
  • Avoid a heavy meal in the hour before.
  • Bring cash for the session — no deposit taken.

Wondering about clothing or undressing? Both are covered honestly in what to wear during a massage and do you undress for a massage. Hygiene — fresh linens for every client, clean hands, clean oils — is in the hygiene guide.

If there are two of you

By default I treat one of you and then the other, back-to-back in the same visit, so you both unwind the same evening. If you'd rather be treated at the same time, I can often bring in a therapist I used to work alongside before we both went independent — same standards, same hourly rate per person. Side by side on one big bed, or on two beds: it depends on your home and what you'd prefer, and we settle it when you book. The full picture is in couples massage at home in Dubai.

Questions people ask before booking

Do you bring a massage table to home visits in Dubai?

No. I lay a dedicated massage blanket over your own bed, add a fresh sheet and a headrest, and work there. A bed is wider, warmer and more stable than a folding table, there's nothing to clear, and when the session ends you're already lying where you'll rest. Everything else — linens, towels, oils — comes with me.

Is my bed suitable? What if it is a single, or very soft?

Almost any normal bed works, from a single to a king. The blanket gives a firm, even layer over the mattress, and I work from whichever side is open. If your bed sits against a wall, I use the free side. If you're unsure, send me a photo on WhatsApp and I'll tell you honestly before I set off.

What happens for a massage in a hotel room?

Exactly the same as at home — I make up the hotel bed with my blanket and fresh linens. Share the hotel and room number when you book and let reception know you're expecting a visitor. Hotel visits are AED 400 an hour, the same as a home visit, with no deposit.

What is your studio like — is it a spa?

It's a private, quiet room by appointment, not a spa with a lobby and pools. The main difference from a home visit is the bed: a large bed made for clients, covered with a massage blanket and fresh linens, rather than a narrow treatment table. Studio sessions are AED 300 an hour; I share the address when you book.

Do I need to prepare anything before you arrive?

Very little. Decide which bed you'd like me to use, have a glass of water nearby, and wear something loose for afterwards. You don't need to clear floor space, buy oil or find towels — I bring all of it and take it all away again.

How do I pay, and is there a deposit?

Never a deposit. The price is agreed up front on WhatsApp — AED 400 an hour at home or in a hotel, AED 300 at my studio, for 60, 90 or 120 minutes — and you pay in cash after the session, or by bank transfer if you'd rather.

Nothing left to wonder about?

Message me with your area, a time and what you'd like — I'll confirm a fixed price. Or pick a slot yourself in about a minute.
