Golf is deceptively hard on the body. Every swing rotates you forcefully in one direction, loading the same side of your lower back, hips and lead shoulder round after round — and 18 holes in Dubai heat only adds to it. A sports and recovery massage can ease that one-sided tightness and support the free rotation your swing depends on. I’m Mei, an independent female massage therapist in Dubai who works with plenty of golfers.
Why golf leaves you tight on one side
Golf is a rotational, one-sided sport, and your body keeps the score. The swing repeatedly rotates and side-bends you in the same direction, so tension tends to build asymmetrically: the lead-side lower back, the hips and glutes, the mid-back where your thoracic spine has to turn, the lead shoulder, and the forearms and wrists from gripping the club. Do that across a full round, plus a warm-up bucket at the range, and the same areas quietly stiffen up.
Add the Dubai factor — walking the course in real heat, sometimes carrying — and you’ve got a body that’s worked hard even though golf never feels like a workout in the gym sense. The tightness often shows up the next morning as a stiff back or an achy shoulder, and over a season it can start to limit how freely you turn.
Where I focus for golfers
With golfers I lead with a sports and recovery massage, concentrating on the chain that does the work in your swing: the lower back and glutes, the hips, the mid-back and its rotation, the shoulders, and down into the forearms. Where an area is really stubborn — a lead-side back that’s been tight for weeks, a shoulder that won’t loosen — I’ll bring in some deep tissue work to get into it properly.
The honest aim is this: I can help ease the tightness and help you feel less restricted through the turn, so your body isn’t fighting you. I’m not here to rebuild your swing — that’s your coach’s job — but a looser, more comfortable back and hips make it a lot easier to move the way you’re trying to.
Before a round versus after
Timing changes what I do. Before a round, you want light, mobilising work that helps you feel loose and ready — not deep, heavy pressure that can leave you a touch flat for the first few holes. After a round, or on a rest day, is the time for the deeper recovery work that eases the accumulated tightness. If you’ve got a competition weekend or a members’ medal coming up, tell me and we’ll plan around it — lighter in the day or two before, the proper deep session saved for afterwards.
Loosening off between rounds
Massage does the deeper work, but a little upkeep helps too. A gentle warm-up before you tee off, some easy rotation and hip mobility through the week, and keeping your fluids up in the heat all make a difference to how your back and shoulders feel. None of it replaces a proper session when you’re tight — but together they keep you turning more freely for longer.
Golf communities I cover
Because I come to you, I work right across Dubai’s golfing areas. I cover Dubai Sports City, home to The Els Club, and the Dubai Hills community around its golf course, along with the Emirates Golf Club and Montgomerie side near the Marina, the Jumeirah Golf Estates area and beyond — plus any hotel or serviced apartment. I bring the table, towels and oils to you, so after your round you can be worked on at home, then shower and relax without a drive. Everything is strictly professional, with proper draping throughout, for both women and men, by appointment.
When it’s more than ordinary tightness
Golfers pick up a few classic complaints — a sore lead-side lower back, an aching shoulder, and golfer’s elbow on the inside of the forearm from gripping and repetition. A massage can help ease the muscular side of these and keep you more comfortable. But if pain is sharp, persistent, radiating down an arm or leg, or comes with numbness or pins and needles, that’s a see-your-doctor-or-physiotherapist situation first. Massage supports your recovery; it doesn’t replace proper assessment of an injury.
Walking 18 holes in the heat
It’s easy to forget that a round is several hours on your feet, often in real heat, sometimes carrying or pushing a bag up and down the fairways. That endurance side adds up on top of the swing itself: the calves and feet take the walking, the lower back tires from being upright and rotating for hours, and heat leaves muscles more prone to feeling tight and crampy if you’ve not kept your fluids up. It’s part of why you can feel oddly worked over the day after a round that never felt strenuous at the time. A recovery massage helps ease that whole-body fatigue, not just the swing-specific tightness in your back and shoulders. It sits well alongside the obvious basics too: drink plenty in the heat, warm up before you tee off rather than launching straight into full-power drives, and give yourself an easy evening after a long round. The massage does the deeper work; those habits keep the worst of the stiffness from settling in.
Who I see for golf recovery
Golf in Dubai draws all sorts, and so does my table: weekend players who feel it every Monday morning, members clocking several rounds a week, people picking the game back up after years away, and older golfers keen to keep turning freely for as long as they can. Some come the day after a big round to shift the stiffness, others book in regularly through the season to stay ahead of it. If you’ve never had a sports massage before, that’s no barrier at all, and I’ll talk you through what I’m doing and check the pressure as we go. As a female therapist I keep everything strictly professional, with proper draping throughout, and I work with both women and men, by appointment. You tell me how your body feels after a round and where it nags, and I’ll match the pressure and focus to you rather than working to a fixed routine.
Book a golfer’s recovery massage in Dubai
If your back and shoulders tighten up every time you play, a regular recovery massage is an easy thing to build into your golf. Whether you’ve just walked off 18 holes or you’re easing a stiff back mid-week, there’s usually a slot that fits around your golf. Message me on WhatsApp, tell me where you play and where you feel it most after a round, and I’ll line up a session that helps you turn freely again.
Frequently asked questions
Is massage good for golfers?
Yes. Golf is a one-sided, rotational sport that tightens the lower back, hips, mid-back and lead shoulder round after round. A sports and recovery massage can ease that build-up and help you feel less restricted through your turn. It supports how your body moves and feels; it won't rebuild your swing, but a looser back and hips certainly help.
Which massage is best for golfers?
I'd lead with a sports and recovery massage across the swing chain: lower back, glutes, hips, mid-back, shoulders and forearms, and bring in deep tissue on any area that's really stubborn. I match the pressure to how you feel and where you are in your golfing week. Message me on WhatsApp and I'll tailor it to you.
Can massage help a golfer's back pain?
A massage can help ease the muscular tightness in a golfer's lower back and keep you more comfortable through a round. But if the pain is sharp, persistent, radiating down a leg, or comes with numbness, see your doctor or a physiotherapist first, because that needs proper assessment. Massage supports your recovery rather than replacing medical care.
How much is a sports massage in Dubai?
A home visit is AED 400 per hour and a studio session is AED 300 per hour, with 60, 90 or 120-minute options at the same hourly rate. No deposit, cash on the day, bank transfer on request. Sixty or 90 minutes works well for post-round recovery. See the pricing page, then WhatsApp me to book a slot.
