By Mei Han, massage therapist in Dubai Updated 18 July 2026
I’m Mei, an independent female massage therapist in Dubai, and a back-focused massage is one of the most common things people book me for. If desk work, driving or long hours on your phone have left your lower back, neck and shoulders tight, deep-tissue work on the back can help ease that tension — at home, at a time that suits you. A home visit is AED 400 an hour, no deposit.
Where the tension comes from
Most of the backs I work on in Dubai are tight for the same handful of reasons: sitting still for hours, hunching over a laptop, gripping a steering wheel in traffic, and looking down at a phone. Hold any posture long enough and the muscles that support your spine — along the lower back, across the shoulder blades, up into the neck — get stiff, overworked and sore.
It usually shows up as a dull ache low in the back, a band of tightness across the shoulders, or a stiff neck that clicks when you turn your head. None of it is unusual, and none of it means something is broken — it’s mostly muscular tension from a body that sits more than it moves. That’s exactly the kind of thing a good back massage can help with.
Dubai adds its own twist. Long commutes in heavy traffic, back-to-back desk hours in cool, air-conditioned offices, and weekend sport crammed into a body that sat still all week — it all tends to land in the back. Cold air-conditioning in particular can leave muscles tight and guarded, which is one reason a warm room and slow, warming strokes are where I like to begin.
How I work on your back: deep tissue, at your pace
For back tension I usually reach for deep tissue — slower, firmer work that gets into the layers of muscle rather than gliding over the top. I’ll warm the area first, then work along the muscles either side of the spine (never pressing on the spine itself), across the shoulder blades, and into the neck and upper back where so much desk tension collects.
“Deep” doesn’t mean I attack you. I work to a pressure you’re comfortable with and check in as I go — there’s a good, satisfying kind of firm, and there’s too much, and only you can feel the difference. If a spot is particularly stubborn, I’ll spend time on it rather than rushing past. Everything is strictly professional, properly draped throughout, and I look after both women and men. You can read the full detail on my deep tissue massage page.
A typical back session runs something like this. You lie face-down, warm and draped, and I begin with broad, warming strokes to settle the whole area. Then I work more specifically: along the long muscles that run either side of the spine, out across the shoulder blades, into the upper traps where the neck meets the shoulders, and down into the lower back and the tops of the hips. Where I find a tight band or a tender knot, I’ll slow right down and ease it out rather than forcing it — the aim is release, not a fight. If you’d like, I’ll finish with the neck and a little scalp work, which people often enjoy more than they expect. Speak up any time about pressure; it’s your session, and firmer isn’t automatically better.
What a back massage can help ease
A focused back session can help relieve:
- Lower-back tightness from sitting and driving
- Upper-back and shoulder tension from desk work and screen time
- A stiff neck and that “carrying my shoulders by my ears” feeling
- General stress that quietly settles across the back and shoulders
The aim is to release the muscular tension, improve how the area feels and moves, and leave you looser and more comfortable. You might book a session when things flare up, then return every few weeks to keep it from building again. There’s no package to commit to — just book when your back needs it.
If your back’s been nagging you, message me on WhatsApp — tell me where it’s tight and where you’re based, and I’ll find you a time.
When to see a doctor, not a massage therapist
I want to be honest here, because your back matters. Massage is great for everyday muscular tension, but it isn’t a treatment for injury or disease. Please see your doctor or a physiotherapist first if you have back pain that is severe, that won’t settle after a couple of weeks, or that came on after a fall or accident. The same goes for pain that shoots down a leg or an arm, or any numbness, tingling or weakness — that can point to a nerve issue that needs proper assessment.
If you’ve been given exercises by a physio, massage can sit alongside them nicely, but it’s a complement to medical care, not a replacement for it. When in doubt, get it checked — then come and see me for the muscular side. If you’d like a quick way to think it through, my desk-pain self-check tool walks you through the common signs.
What helps between sessions
Massage does part of the job; the rest is small daily habits. Try to get up and move every 30 to 40 minutes, raise your screen so you’re not looking down, and keep your lower back supported when you sit. A little gentle movement — a short walk, some easy stretches — often keeps a treated back feeling looser for longer. Heat helps too: a warm shower or a heat pack on a tight lower back can take the edge off between visits. None of this is a substitute for medical advice if something is genuinely wrong, but for everyday desk tension it makes each session last.
How often should you get a back massage?
There’s no single right answer — it depends on your back, your job and your budget. If desk tension is a constant, a session every two to four weeks tends to keep it from creeping back. If it’s more of an occasional flare-up, book when you need it and leave it at that. The honest aim is to need me less over time, alongside moving more during the day, not to sign you up to something ongoing. There’s no package or membership, and no deposit — you simply book the next one when your back tells you to.
Prices, areas and booking
A back-focused home visit is AED 400 an hour, or AED 300 an hour at my studio. A 60-minute session is enough for a solid back, neck and shoulder treatment; 90 minutes lets me slow right down or take in the whole body. Same hourly rate whichever length you choose, no deposit, cash on the day, bank transfer on request — it’s all on my pricing page.
I cover 19 areas across Dubai plus hotels, so whether you’re in Business Bay, the Marina, Downtown or further out, I can usually come to you — daily, 10am to 11pm. To book, send me a WhatsApp message with your area and a rough time, and let’s get that back sorted.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I get a good back massage in Dubai?
I'm Mei, an independent female therapist, and I bring a back-focused deep tissue massage to your home across 19 areas of Dubai, plus hotels. I work along the muscles either side of the spine, the shoulder blades and the neck, at a pressure you're comfortable with. A home visit is AED 400 an hour — message me on WhatsApp to book.
What massage is best for lower back pain?
For everyday muscular tightness from sitting and driving, deep tissue on the lower back and hips usually helps most. It works into the deeper muscle layers rather than gliding over the top. If your pain is severe, ongoing, or shoots down a leg, see your doctor or a physiotherapist first — massage is a complement to medical care, not a replacement.
Can a back massage help desk and neck tension?
Yes. Desk work, screens and driving leave the upper back, shoulders and neck stiff and overworked, and focused massage can help ease that tension and leave the area looser. Many people book when it flares up, then return every few weeks. A session is AED 400 an hour at home, with no deposit.
How much is a back massage in Dubai?
A back-focused home visit is AED 400 an hour, or AED 300 an hour at my studio. Sixty minutes is enough for a solid back, neck and shoulder treatment; 90 minutes lets me slow down or take in the whole body. Same hourly rate for any length, no deposit, cash on the day or bank transfer on request.
Do you come to Business Bay for a back massage?
Yes. Business Bay is one of the 19 areas I cover, along with Downtown, the Marina and many more, plus hotels across the city. I can usually come to you the same day. Message me on WhatsApp with your building and a rough time and I'll confirm.
