Can You Have Massage With High Blood Pressure in Dubai?

By Mei Han, massage therapist in Dubai Updated 17 October 2026

Short answer

Massage is not a treatment for high blood pressure. Ask your clinician whether it fits your current care, keep taking prescribed medicine and postpone if readings or symptoms need medical attention.

Massage should not be used to treat high blood pressure or replace prescribed medicine. Ask your clinician whether massage fits your current care, and postpone if your readings or symptoms need medical attention. I’m Mei, an independent female massage therapist in Dubai; once suitability is established, we can plan a relaxation appointment around appropriate pressure, positioning and an unhurried finish.

Can massage lower blood pressure enough to replace treatment?

No. Feeling calmer after massage is not evidence that hypertension is controlled, and a lower reading afterwards does not justify changing medication. If you want massage, choose it for a realistic comfort or relaxation goal alongside your usual care. Your clinician should continue to guide blood-pressure monitoring and treatment.

The British Heart Foundation’s guidance on massage and heart conditions explains that reductions seen after massage have been short term. It advises speaking to a doctor or nurse before massage when you have a heart condition. That is a different proposition from booking a course of massage as a blood-pressure intervention.

The NHS information on high blood pressure also emphasises that it often has no symptoms. Feeling well, sleeping soundly or enjoying firm pressure cannot tell you whether your pressure is within the range your clinician wants. Use the measurements and follow-up plan you have been given.

A useful massage goal might be “I would like a quiet hour and comfortable shoulder work.” An unsuitable goal is “I need this session to bring my reading down before tomorrow.” The second needs medical advice about the reading, not a stronger massage or a longer appointment.

I would not build a booking plan around a promised change in your numbers. If you keep a monitoring record, continue it as instructed and discuss concerning results with your clinician. Your massage notes can record comfort and preferences without turning the appointment into a blood-pressure test.

What should you check before confirming an appointment?

Ask the clinician who manages your blood pressure whether the proposed massage is appropriate now and whether pressure, positioning or other health conditions change the plan. Mention any recent change in treatment or symptoms. The important detail is your current situation, not simply that hypertension appears on a medical history form.

You can describe the proposed appointment plainly: hands-on massage, usually lying on a bed, lasting 60, 90 or 120 minutes, for relaxation or muscular comfort. Ask whether any part should be limited. This is more useful than requesting a general answer about “spa treatments”, which may include services I do not provide.

Use this short checklist for the conversation:

  • Is there any reason to postpone massage while my current readings or treatment are being reviewed?
  • Are there restrictions on pressure, body areas or lying positions?
  • Do my other conditions or medicines create separate precautions?
  • What symptoms or readings should make me seek medical help instead of attending?

You do not need to send me a complete clinical file. Share the relevant advice accurately, together with the massage areas you want and anything that affects lying down or getting up. If the instruction is unclear, ask the clinician to clarify before we choose a date.

Blood-pressure medicines and blood thinners are not the same thing, although a person may take both. If anticoagulants are part of your treatment, the blood thinners and massage guide covers that separate pressure and bruising discussion. Do not change either medicine to make massage possible.

Pregnancy with high blood pressure requires advice from your maternity team, rather than applying a general relaxation plan. A recent heart procedure or difficulty breathing when lying flat also changes the question. Name these circumstances at the outset so they receive the appropriate medical attention.

Which readings or symptoms mean massage should wait?

A concerning reading needs your medical action plan, not an appointment intended to lower it. The American Heart Association’s blood-pressure guidance gives a clear escalation point: readings above 180 systolic and/or 120 diastolic require prompt action. Do not use the absence of discomfort as permission to continue with massage.

If a reading is in that range without symptoms, repeat it after at least one minute as the AHA advises and contact your healthcare professional promptly if it remains high. With chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, numbness, vision change or difficulty speaking, seek emergency care immediately. Do not wait for a massage therapist to respond or for massage to change the number.

Those figures are not an acceptance threshold for my service. A reading below them can still require medical advice, especially if it is unusual for you or you have symptoms. Your clinician’s instructions may call for action earlier, and concerning chest or neurological symptoms deserve urgent attention regardless of a home reading.

I do not provide blood-pressure monitoring or medical clearance during home visits. Bringing a monitor does not turn the session into a supervised clinical service. Keep any measurements within the care plan you already follow, and arrange medical review separately when needed.

Message me on WhatsApp once you have the relevant advice. The message is for planning an appropriate massage, not an urgent channel for interpreting readings. Send the restrictions and your comfort goal rather than asking whether a number alone is acceptable.

How should pressure, position and getting up be planned?

Once massage is considered suitable, agree a comfortable pressure and tell me before any position becomes difficult. There is no need to choose deep pressure to obtain a meaningful relaxation session. The service should fit the advice you have received and your feedback throughout the appointment.

The BHF notes that people can feel lightheaded on getting up after massage and advises gradual changes of position. Build that into the visit: finish without rushing, sit up carefully and stand only when you feel steady. If dizziness is new, persistent or severe, seek medical advice rather than treating it as an expected result.

Keep normal prescribed medication routines unless your clinician tells you otherwise. Do not skip a dose, change the timing or take more medicine because of a massage booking. If a medicine or recent change leaves you feeling unwell, discuss that with the prescriber before making a relaxation appointment.

Think about the end of the visit when choosing the time. Avoid putting a taxi departure, meeting or hotel checkout immediately against the planned finish. A schedule with breathing room makes it easier to pause when needed instead of feeling obliged to stand quickly and hurry away.

Home visits use your own bed with a massage blanket and fresh linens; the studio has a large client bed. Tell me if lying flat or changing position presents a problem before confirming. I can check feasibility with the usual setup, but I do not assume that a home visit meets a need for medical positioning or supervision.

For persistent or severe muscular pain, or numbness and radiating pain, see your doctor or a physiotherapist first. A relaxation appointment is not a way to investigate a new symptom. The massage plan should be built around a suitable goal that remains after those questions are resolved.

What should you book and tell me in Dubai?

Swedish and relaxation massage is the relevant service to discuss for a calm, comfortable session once suitability is established. Tell me the areas you want included and the guidance about pressure or position. We can then choose a duration without presenting a longer session as a stronger blood-pressure treatment.

Home and hotel appointments cost AED 400 per hour; studio appointments cost AED 300 per hour. Sessions last 60, 90 or 120 minutes at the same hourly rate, with no deposit; payment is cash or bank transfer on request. The massage price list gives the totals for each length.

I welcome both women and men for strictly professional massage with proper draping, daily 10:00–23:00, by appointment. Include your Dubai area, preferred day and whether you want a home, hotel or studio visit. You can also state which areas you prefer left untouched.

Send your appointment preferences and relevant clinical restrictions on WhatsApp. We can confirm a practical relaxation plan while your blood-pressure care stays with the clinician managing it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a massage if I have high blood pressure?

Ask the clinician managing your blood pressure whether massage fits your current care and whether pressure or positions need limiting. Do not use massage to respond to a concerning reading. Once the medical question is resolved, message me on WhatsApp with the relevant restrictions and the comfort goal for your appointment.

Can regular massage replace blood pressure tablets?

No. Massage may support relaxation, but it is not a replacement for prescribed hypertension treatment or monitoring. Do not stop, reduce or retime medicine because of a massage appointment or a lower reading afterwards. If you would like a suitable relaxation session alongside your usual care, discuss the practical plan with me on WhatsApp.

Is deep tissue massage better for lowering blood pressure?

Do not choose deep pressure as a blood-pressure treatment. The appropriate pressure depends on medical advice, other conditions, medicines and your comfort, not a promised effect on readings. Message me on WhatsApp after checking suitability with your clinician so we can discuss a relaxation appointment with the relevant limits in place.

How much does a relaxation massage cost in Dubai?

Home and hotel visits cost AED 400 per hour, and studio appointments cost AED 300 per hour. Sessions last 60, 90 or 120 minutes at the same hourly rate. There is no deposit; payment is cash or bank transfer on request. These are massage prices, with medical assessment and blood-pressure care arranged separately.
