Short answer
After your device team confirms suitability, keep pressure away from the implant site. Postpone after implantation until the wound is settled and your team’s movement and positioning restrictions allow the appointment.

A pacemaker does not automatically rule out massage, but the implant site must be protected and recent implantation needs your device team’s advice first. Choose a gentle relaxation goal, keep pressure away from the device and confirm which positions and arm movements are suitable. New chest symptoms or an unsettled wound mean postponing, not testing a lighter massage.
What changes when you have a pacemaker?
The important distinction is between having an established device and still recovering from the procedure that fitted it. The date alone does not describe your readiness: the wound, the reason for the pacemaker and any current movement restrictions also matter. An appointment should fit those facts before we choose pressure or duration.
I’m Mei, an independent female massage therapist in Dubai. My role is to offer an ordinary, strictly professional massage for comfort and relaxation, not cardiac rehabilitation or device care. I would rather agree a modest session that respects your instructions than build the visit around reaching every part of your body.
The British Heart Foundation’s massage guidance says massage is usually possible with a pacemaker or ICD when the insertion area is avoided. It also advises waiting after fitting until the wound has recovered and lying on the front and back is comfortable. Your device team’s individual instructions take priority over treating that general guidance as clearance.
These are separate questions: whether your heart condition is stable enough for massage, whether the procedure site is ready, and whether the proposed session avoids restricted contact. A comfortable shoulder does not answer all three. Nor does a small incision mean the internal device can be ignored.
For the massage goal, think of somewhere ordinary and specific: tired lower-leg muscles, comfortable hand work or gentle back work in an approved position. A pacemaker does not create a reason to request stronger pressure. Swedish and relaxation massage is the relevant starting point when your team considers a relaxation appointment suitable.
What should your device team confirm first?
Ask about the actual appointment you want, including lying positions and the areas you hope to have massaged. Saying only “Can I relax?” leaves out the physical contact. Explain that this is hands-on body massage on a bed, with changes of position, rather than a medical treatment.
A useful set of questions is short enough to take to your next call or review:
- Is an ordinary relaxation massage suitable at this stage?
- Which areas around the implant and wound must remain untouched?
- Are there current limits on lifting, reaching or moving the arm on that side?
- Which lying positions and ways of getting up are acceptable?
- Do my heart condition, medicines or another recent procedure add restrictions?
If you have a leadless device, describe that to your team and follow the instructions for your actual procedure site rather than assuming a chest-site plan applies.
Write down the practical answers in your own words. For example, “Keep the left upper chest untouched and do not move that arm above the limit my team gave me” is more useful for planning than “Everything is probably fine.” There is no need to send an entire medical record over WhatsApp to describe an area we must avoid.
| Your situation | Next booking step |
|---|---|
| Recently fitted or replaced device | Ask the device team about recovery and the proposed contact |
| Established device, comfortable site, clear advice | Check the massage areas and positions against that advice |
| Unclear arm or lying restrictions | Resolve those questions before choosing a slot |
| New symptoms or a concerning wound change | Seek medical advice rather than arrange massage |
If you take blood-thinning medicine, mention that as a separate consideration. The guide to massage while taking blood thinners explains why pressure and bruising risk need their own discussion. Do not stop or change prescribed medicine to make a massage appointment easier to arrange.
How do you keep pressure away from the implant?
Protecting the site involves the whole position, not just where my hands go. A chest area can meet the bed while you lie on your front, clothing can feel tight, and reaching to turn over can move the shoulder. We should identify those points before the massage starts rather than discover them halfway through.
Describe the location of your device in plain terms and tell me which side needs protection. You can indicate the area through clothing; there is no need to expose it for a non-medical inspection. I do not need to press around it to establish where it sits.
Start with positions you already use comfortably and that your team permits. If lying on your front is unsuitable, do not agree a face-down back routine simply because that is what you booked in the past. We need a useful, feasible arrangement within the normal setup, or a later date when the restrictions have changed.
Keep your own arm movements within your instructions. I would not pull the arm into a stretch or use it to roll you into position. Tell me before booking if you need assistance to transfer, turn or sit up, because an ordinary home visit should not be mistaken for a nursing or lifting service.
Send your device-site and movement restrictions on WhatsApp. Include the areas you want to focus on and any position you already know is uncomfortable. That lets us establish whether there is a worthwhile session available without working near the implant.
It is also useful to distinguish a hands-on appointment from other products advertised as massage. Questions about electrical stimulation, magnetic products or powered equipment belong with your device team and the relevant manufacturer. Advice about one of those products should not be copied across to a manual session, or vice versa.
Which symptoms or changes mean postponing?
Postpone if something has changed since the advice you relied on. A newly painful device site, wound concern or new restriction deserves a fresh conversation with the treating team. You do not need to keep an appointment merely because it was acceptable when you first messaged.
The NHS pacemaker recovery guidance explains why follow-up and wound monitoring matter after implantation. Redness, swelling, discharge or fever should be reported promptly to the clinical team. Massage is not a way to assess whether a wound problem is minor.
Chest pain, serious breathing difficulty or collapse requires urgent medical help. Stop the booking conversation and seek care; do not wait for a massage reply or try to reduce symptoms with relaxation. New dizziness or a change in your usual symptoms also belongs with your clinician before the appointment proceeds.
For persistent or severe pain, numbness or pain travelling into an arm, see your doctor or a physiotherapist before attributing it to tight muscles. Massage can support comfort when appropriate, but it does not replace assessment. Having a pacemaker is not a reason to assume every symptom comes from the device either.
During a suitable session, tell me immediately about discomfort, pulling near the site or feeling unwell. We stop and reassess the situation rather than work through it. Afterward, follow your normal care instructions; there is no massage-specific reason to alter medicine, activity restrictions or follow-up appointments.
How do you book a suitable session in Dubai?
Your first message should cover your Dubai area, preferred day, when the device was fitted or replaced, relevant clinical advice and the areas to avoid. Add the comfortable positions and any support you require. These details determine feasibility before the diary does.
For a home visit, I use your bed with a massage blanket and fresh linens; the studio has a large bed for clients. Neither setting changes medical restrictions. Choose the place where the approved position and arrival arrangements are easiest, and mention any access concern before confirming.
Appointments are available daily from 10:00–23:00, by appointment, for both women and men, with proper draping. Home and hotel visits cost AED 400 per hour, and studio appointments cost AED 300 per hour. Sessions are 60, 90 or 120 minutes, with no deposit; payment is cash, with bank transfer on request. The pricing page gives the full duration totals.
Choose a duration around a realistic comfort goal and your tolerance for lying down. More time is not a medical advantage, and excluding the implant area does not create an obligation to use stronger pressure elsewhere. A clear, manageable plan is the useful result of the booking conversation.
Message me on WhatsApp to check the appointment plan, including your device team’s restrictions and preferred setting. Once those fit an ordinary relaxation visit, we can confirm the service, duration and available time together.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have a massage in Dubai with a pacemaker?
A settled pacemaker may be compatible with an ordinary relaxation massage, but your device team should confirm suitability and any restrictions. Keep pressure away from the implant site and agree comfortable positions. Message me on WhatsApp with the relevant advice, procedure date and areas to avoid before confirming an appointment.
How long after pacemaker surgery should I wait for massage?
Use your device team’s recovery advice rather than a fixed waiting period from a massage website. The wound, comfortable lying positions and current arm restrictions all matter. Ask the team about the proposed appointment, then WhatsApp me with the practical limits; a recent replacement also deserves that check.
Can I lie face down for massage with a pacemaker?
Only consider a position that your device team permits and that keeps the implant area comfortable and free of pressure. Lying on the front can create contact even when hands avoid the chest. Send your positioning restrictions on WhatsApp before booking so we can check whether the usual setup is suitable.
What does a relaxation massage with Mei cost in Dubai?
Home and hotel visits cost AED 400 per hour, while studio appointments cost AED 300 per hour. Choose 60, 90 or 120 minutes, with no deposit and cash payment or bank transfer on request. These are ordinary massage appointments, so clinical suitability and device-site restrictions should be established before selecting the time.
