Dubai has fallen hard for padel — and for running clubs, HYROX, F45 and everything in between. It’s brilliant for you. It’s also why I see so many sore elbows, tight calves and stiff shoulders. If you train regularly, recovery isn’t a luxury; it’s part of the work.

The niggles I see most

A few complaints come up again and again with active clients:

  • “Padel elbow” — pain on the outside of the elbow from all that wrist and forearm work (it’s the same mechanism as tennis elbow).
  • Tight, heavy calves and hamstrings from running on hard ground in the heat.
  • Stiff shoulders and upper back from serving, lifting and pressing.
  • Hips that won’t loosen from sitting all day, then sprinting all evening.

Left alone, these “niggles” are how small problems quietly become injuries that cost you weeks.

How recovery massage actually helps

Sports and recovery massage does a few specific things:

  • Releases overworked muscle so the constant tightness eases and you move freely again.
  • Improves circulation to the worked area, which helps flush fatigue and supports repair.
  • Restores range of motion around stiff joints — useful before a match and after a hard session.
  • Flags trouble early. Often I’ll find a tight, tender spot you hadn’t noticed yet — and we deal with it before it flares.

It isn’t a fluffy spa hour; it’s focused work on the tissues you’re actually punishing.

Timing it around training

  • Between sessions is the sweet spot — firm work a day or two before your next hard effort.
  • The day after a race or tournament, go gentler: the aim is to ease soreness and help recovery, not to add more load.
  • In a heavy training block, many active clients book every one to two weeks to stay ahead of the tightness.
